Participant Agreement, Sellers

Version: 1.1 Date: 2026-05-20

This agreement is between you (the person registering to sell at a Yard Sale Walk event) and Yard Sale Walk (the website that connects you with shoppers).

Please read this carefully. By checking the agreement box during signup, you confirm that you understand and agree to everything below.

1. What you're signing up to do

You're registering to hold a yard sale at your own home, on the same day as other neighbours, as part of a coordinated walking event. Your address will appear on a public map so shoppers can find you.

2. The five hard rules (most important)

You agree that:

  1. Private property only. You will hold your sale entirely on your own private property, your front yard, driveway, garage, back lane, or porch. Not on the sidewalk, the street, the boulevard, or any public space. Selling on public property in Vancouver is against City bylaws and could result in fines or your removal from the event.

  2. No food sales. You will not sell any food or drink, not baked goods, not lemonade, not snacks, not coffee. Selling food at events requires a separate permit from Vancouver Coastal Health. This rule is strict and non-negotiable.

  3. No commercial or new goods. You will only sell your own used personal items. You will not sell: new merchandise, items you bought specifically to resell, items you produced for retail sale, items sourced from wholesale or commercial suppliers, or items belonging to a business you operate.

  4. You have permission to use the space. If you rent, you have your landlord's permission to hold the sale. If you live in a strata (condo, townhouse, apartment), you have written permission from your strata council to use any common space (the Strata Addendum applies to you).

  5. You're responsible for your own sale. You are fully responsible for what happens on your property during the event, the safety of your space, the items you sell, your interactions with shoppers, and any disputes. Yard Sale Walk does not supervise, manage, or guarantee anything about your individual sale.

3. What we provide

In exchange for your registration fee, Yard Sale Walk will:

4. What we don't provide

Yard Sale Walk does not:

5. Payment, fees, and what you keep

Your registration fee (set by your event's organizer, between $10 and $25) is processed by Stripe (a payment company) and split, in this order, as follows:

  1. Charity (if your organizer has chosen one): the chosen percentage is taken off the registration fee first and forwarded to the named charity. You'll see this amount in your fee breakdown before paying.
  2. Stripe processing fee: a small fee to handle the card payment (~$0.74 on a $15 fee).
  3. Platform fee: 20% of what's left, goes to Yard Sale Walk.
  4. Organizer: the remainder goes to your local event organizer.

You keep all proceeds from the items you sell at your sale. Yard Sale Walk does not take any commission from your sales, only the registration fee covers our costs.

6. Your information and privacy

By registering, you agree that:

Full privacy details are in our Privacy Policy.

7. No refunds

Registration fees are non-refundable, including for:

The only exception is if Yard Sale Walk cancels the event entirely, in which case we automatically refund your full registration fee.

8. Liability, what we're not responsible for

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Yard Sale Walk is not liable for:

You are solely responsible for maintaining safe conditions on your property, properly describing the items you sell, complying with all applicable laws (including consumer protection law and Vancouver bylaws), and any tax obligations on income from items you sell.

You release Yard Sale Walk and its operators from any claims arising from your participation in the event.

9. Our right to remove you

We may remove you from this or future events, without refund, if you:

10. Changes to this agreement

We may update this agreement from time to time. Future changes apply to your future registrations. The version you accepted when you registered for this event continues to govern this event.

11. Governing law

This agreement is governed by the laws of British Columbia, Canada. Any dispute will be resolved in the courts of British Columbia.
